Good ship captain games are hard to find, be they based at sea or in space. I'm not sure if this is going to go more towards a flight sim or captain style of game. Most people seem to want to fly the fighter, I want to command the carrier. Eve was good for this.

Edit: I should add here that I never played Wing Commander as it was a bit before my time. I have played Freelancer and liked the concept but found the execution shallow. As I previously mentioned I have played EvE and while I respect it's accomplishments I could not get into it hardcore and I found running missions to be a bore after a while.

Nice find! Last space sim I tried was a fan-made Battlestar Galactica mod for Freespace. It was... well. Good effort. But borderline unplayable.

HUGE wing commander fan here.
See, I never really played WC... I played the hell out of X-Wing, Tie Fighter, Descent, etc...

Sadly the last really good flight game for the PC was the Battlefield games... And those are mainly FPS games.

Saw this today...

My concern is that he is sitting there playing the game with a controller. Frankly, if they do the same thing that MS did with freelancer and make it so you cant use a flight stick, I wont even bother with it.

Joystick, gamepad, mouse, keyboard are all supported.
We've all got our preferences, so why be forced to choose?
Plus later in the video it shows a stick and throttle.

I had some fun with Beyond the Red Line (the BSG mod Jericho941 referenced above). This looks interesting; doubt my hardware is fully up to the job, but I'll keep it in mind.
