It's all in how you describe it. ;)

Does anyone still use CB radio?

The deer hunters that use dogs had CBs in the past, but I thought cell phones replaced them.

I've erected a few antennas, the scariest and most fun was a 50" self-standing Rohn tower. It came in sections and after we concreted the base in and let the concrete harden over night. Of course, we high school boys didn't have any equipment, so we climbed the tower and locked our legs around the tower, raised the next section on rope and held it over out head until we got it lined up, then climbed that section and hauled up another one. It's a miracle we weren't all killed or injured.

Off roaders still use it quite a bit. It's good for close range comms between vehicles on a trail, and it isn't as line of sight limited as other radios. Sometimes on road trips I have caught talk between oversize rigs and their pilot truck as I passed them going the other way in my Jeep.

OTR truckers still use it extensively. I can monitor 27.185Mhz (Ch19) on my HF mobile rig, but seldom bother as the few times I have to check on traffic back up etc, there has been little useful information and a I could feel IQ points being sucked out of my head.

As NPR said, off-roaders use it for intercom traffic. A buddy of mine has amateur and CB gear in his Jeep as his Jeep Club uses CB during their events. He uses amateur for Public Service Events and emergency operations (ARES/RACES)support.

I know the local Goldwing club used it for their group rides.

IIRC Ohio has rules about using radios for communications when deer hunting. Can't use it to coordinate between stands, etc. Most of the folks that I know carry FRS radios to call for help etc. in areas where cell coverage is limited. Lighter and smaller than most CB portables (UHF antenna vs low band VHF for one thing).

You going to do a tower? Multiple towers?

Beams or long wires?

Verticals?

All of the above?

And, you going attach a porta-potty?

I've built one 25-foot tower from three 14-foot treated 2X4s; I'll probably build a couple more to hold up my multiband dipole.
Beams or long wires?
The long-wire will be connected to the house for use with my "entertainment" HF receiver and various crystal sets.
Verticals?
I have one five-band-trapped-vertical, but it needs to be moved to the new location.
All of the above?
No rotatable beam, but yes on all the others. The only beam I have is a four-element beam on 146.850mhz
down at Little Sister's house. (She has a Technician license)
And, you going attach a porta-potty?
I thought about installing a complete water system and toilet, but that means a new septic tank and leach-field. I decided to use a sturdy jug with a tight-fitting lid for an emergency urinal. :) After all, the house is only fifty feet away,....

Sure! Our houses are fairly small, but we could put you up somehow. Or, you could pick a nice spot and camp out. The local county seat is just five miles away with two nice motels and fourteen restaurants. If you were planning on going up Interstate 44, we are about forty miles south of Rolla on US-63. We'd be glad to see you!

Tenative plans are to rent a van for the trip. Route not yet planned out. May run 2-meters if I rig it up.

Okay! Our local repeater is on 146.850 (-600khz), located in Prescott, MO. We are just north of Houston in Texas County.
