Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 to Include So-Called 'Porn Mode' Privacy Feature

Microsoft’s latest Internet browser includes a piece of software that allows Internet users to hide the audit trail of websites they have visited.

The new InPrivate feature on Internet Explorer 8 — now in Beta release, and dubbed by many in the Web development community as “porn mode,” a nod to its most obvious use — when enabled automatically conceals sites visited by wiping clean browsing and search history, cookies, form data and passwords. It also clears the browser cache at the end of each session.

Or you can not be a corporate slave and use Firefox and Opera, which already do that to keep phishers from grabbing credit card numbers or other identity theft information.

Ummm... yeah. Firefox has a toggle switch that says, "Clear all private data at program close."

Leave it to Microsoft to actually name a standard feature something edgy. Perhaps they'll hook up speakers and a TV card and call it Windows Media Edi... oh, wait. Never mind.

Back in the DOS days, I could always tell what features Microsoft was going to add to their next release of MS DOS simply by booting up my 286 and checking out the DR DOS I was running. MS was usually about 18 months behind what DR had implemented.
