Java now a no-no?

Just to induce more cringing, I'll share this:

One of our clients is a United Van Lines agent. United's agent interface is a mainframe green screen system presented with an... old version of IBM's WebSphere HostOnDemand. That won't run on any Java build newer than Update 6 Version 12.

Yeah... We go through interesting gymnastics to compensate for that little package of joy.

When I was gainfully employed, our payroll was specific to a single java format. Due to normal computing updates, we often were updated out of that version and could not submit our payroll info. Frustrating.
