MacBook Security

Post by blackeagle603 »

So the daughter#2 is off and running with her new (refurb'd) MacBook Pro.

What about security for her as she's out and about with it using WiFi etc? I have. No. Idea. About Apple.

The foremost security threat for a portable computer is physical, not software or network. It should be configured to lock itself (require a password) whenever it suspends or sleeps or when she shuts down or closes the lid.

And combined with password protected encryption for your critical directories, there is realistically no way they are getting your data off. Just don't forget the password(s). That's how I have my Pro set up.

I don't know much about Macs, but I agree with the above.
Keep it password protected, encrypted, and backup often.

I was reminded of this video: Dont steal a hackers Mac
It's probably NSFW, but it shows what you could possibly do if your Mac gets stolen.

Yep, she's got it password protected. Not sure I understand the Apple firewall options/settings. Didn't have time to look closely yet...
