It's properly called a "firewood processor". They have even bigger ones that go on front end loaders. The advantage of these ones over the trailer mounted ones is that you only need one operator. The downside is they're significantly slower that a trailer mounted one, as you have to stop and pick up another log, vs, having a few ready to go in the chute. The really big trailer jobs can process an amazing amount of wood - upwards of 6 cords an hour, but at that point, it's some serious capital involved.

Here's an interesting video of a home build one. because the sawblade isn't power fed, it makes it much simpler.

If there was a simpler one I could hook up to my loader, it would make life easier. All I need is something easier to keep running and more powerful.

See if Crispin Arms will build you one. I hear they have a flexible manufacturing capability. ;) ;)

Shit. FiL once roped me (and my wife) into "helping" lay in some firewood. He supplied cut 18" rounds and a (single wedge) hydraulic splitter. We wound up splitting and stacking something like 6 cords of wood. Nasty work, even with the machine.

I can do all the hydraulic work for something like that. Sounds like it would be a fun project.
