Just an FYI since I know several of you are members over there, in case you wonder (or even notice) that I'm not posting there anymore. Somebody posted a question there about the new Tech Sights for the AK, so I referred them to the thread here, where I reviewed it, and there was lots of good discussion. The context and responses were crucial, and I didn't want to write all that up again or try to summarize other's responses, so I posted the link over there. Apparently, posting ANY external links to that forum is a violation of the terms of service, no matter the content of said links. So, they removed my post from the thread, even though at the time I was the only respondent with actual experience with that product.
Anyway, without going on too big of a rant about their attitude and where they can shove it, I went through that forum this morning and edited out any useful content that I could find from posts I had made, and then asked that my membership be deleted. Dunno if they did, or what, and don't really care, but figured some of you might be interested to know the reason.

Read some of the posts their but that is about it, they seem like they are more paranoid than most , I prefer Backwoods home as a resource for survival info anyway.

Dude, they are like their own little enclave over there. I ignored a lot of it (like the rabid religiosity) because they are interested in some of the same subjects as I am, and I enjoyed reading some of the fiction (I'll be better off without that time suck BTW). I eventually came to realize that it isn't just about preparedness with many of them; a substantial proportion of them are not only convinced that the end times are rapidly approaching, but also appear to be eagerly anticipating them.
You remember a while back how that abortion doctor was murdered, and how you had to smack down a certain type of response by a couple of people? Well, over there, that smack down never came, and they had a multiple page thread of giddyness over the guy's murder. When the site owner finally responded, he did nothing to try to restrain that, and added his own similar sentiments. My one line response was a single link (to the "rabid squirrel" sequence from Over the Hedge), and it quietly disappeared, and now I know it was probably as much because it was an external link as for the content.

I've always looked at your cantankerous-nes as a feature not a bug. My advice (not that anyone asked...) is to keep calling a spade a spade, a turd a turd, and generally keep on keeping on.

Please , I live in a place where liberals are church going Republicans, and democrats are considered insane. These guys are off center to be sure, and we have several groups here we sedate and bring them in to town to vote , and release them in to the wild again that are real close to these goobers in philosophy.

Since I'm easily amused, I left them another parting gift, even though I assume I no longer have access. A day or two ago, I posted an inline image in a response to a thread, that was hosted from my server. Instead of pointing to the original helpful image, that filename is now something from the demotivator thread... Nothing too horrible, but it violates more of their rules, and they'll have take time to remove another post. Wish I'd thought of that before I edited out several of my posts that had images inserted in the same manner, it could have been the gift that kept on giving.

I spent 5 winters in Fairbanks going to UAF, and I never really thought of it that way but I think you are right. And actually, my dad once commented that all the time I spent up there surrounded by hard core right wingers and AIP types would take years to fix, but I think at this point it is safe to say that I was harmed irreparably by the experience.
But yeah, some of those people up in FBX are really out there. And one can't forget to mention all the tree hugging dope smoking hippie communists at UAF itself. Really a stark contrast when you cross University or Geist up there, going in either direction.

Let me make sure I understand correctly.
You got your hand slapped for violating ToS, so you got all self-righteous, took your toys and went home, but you took the time to go back and play mischief?
Hmm.

There's plenty of "nutters" over there. (Haha, very punny.)
Plenty of wannabes, and people hoping for the TEOTWAWKI. The "gray man" concept really pisses me off too. As in, I won't tell you what I drive, because the guy down the street trolls forums looking for people to rob once TEOTWAWKI happens.
They do have good info, but I rarely post, ever since I criticized people for using ball ammo for self-defense.
