My turn for surgery - Post-surgery follow up

Post by Frankingun »

A month ago, I had a bad slip, and my left knee went straight out from under me. Saw the orthopedist Tuesday. I have a grade 4 MCL tear and a grade 3 ACL tear. MRI that night. I see him next Thursday to discuss surgery.

I know it's not as bad as what DedicatedDad has gon through, but I'm still not looking forward to it. Ugh.

Thoughts and gripes appreciated, especially if you've had ACL work.

Nothing like that so far (knock on wood) for me.

Good luck, keep in touch, let us know if we can help.

Ouch! Best of luck, Frankengun! My dad was supposed to have surgery for his prostrate cancer today, but developed an irregular heart rhythm right after they put him under. Now it's off to the cardiologist to be cleared before they can reschedule with the urologist.

I'm still recovering from rotator-cuff surgery, going to be out for about another month, so I know how much fun it is. Prayers and best wishes for a quick and complete recovery.

Remember, no matter how much you hate them, the Physical [strike]Terrorists[/strike] therapists are trying to help.

Good luck, and let us know how it's going.

Good luck... I'm sure you will be fine, but I'll keep you in my prayers just the same.

Never did MCL or ACL, mine was meniscus, and so far I've been lucky and avoided surgery. The PT has made a huge difference for all the other members of my family, as I'm the only one without bionic knees.

You should just get a peg-leg, hide ammo and a retractable blade in it.

If you decide not to go that route, best of luck with the surgery! :D

Keep us posted, as always.

The good news is, I didn't mess up the cartilage inside my knee. The MCL is healing on its own, and is progressing well. My ACL is mostly torn up, and of course will have to be replaced with a graft from my patella tendon. I'm going to try to get in to surgery on April 1st. I'll do some home therapy to strengthen the knee as much as possible before surgery - the therapist said he wants me to get strong enough that when I walk in to the surgery center, I kinda feel like I don't need the surgery. I'll see him again in three weeks.

EXCELLENT plan!! Make that knee STRONG so your recovery is that much quicker and easier and you're not set back that far.

Sounds like you're in good hands!
