Congratulations!
The use of the word "but" usually indicates that everything preceding it in a sentence is a lie.
E.g.:
"I believe in Freedom of Speech, but". . .
"I support the Second Amendment, but". . .

Modern engines break in within a thousand miles.
Old cars were ready for the junkyard by 100k.

But that was about when the price of the vehicles he liked (Chevy Suburbans, not my choice but I think his Scouting activity pushed him that way) dropped to where he could afford them. And he made his living as a mechanic before getting his accounting degree. Talking 80's 90's.

I don't think my cars ever have ever stayed with me past 60k miles. The only one that would have made it to 100k without major problems would have been my 2005 Tucson.
Remember, folks, you can't spell "douche" without "Che."

My '98 4Runner needs new heads at 268,000, so I'm putting a new engine in it... if the mechanic ever gets back from vacation.
My '85 Suburban has 1052 on the clock. Don't know if that's 101,052, 201,052 or what.

Don't tell me, your mechanic is spending a month at Bellagio on Lake Como.

Re: Finally Broke In
I bought my 2014 Outlander in 2019 with 47,000 miles on it (was a courtesy car for the first 2-1/2 years of its operating life). Now has 139,000+ and the only non-scheduled maintenance repair I've had so far is a tie rod end. Going for 250,000, if we're all spared. At that point I'll be sorely tempted (I'll buy new for CINCHOME -- she's got one coming at Christmas -- but I like to buy used for cash for myself) to treat myself to a nice clean FJ Cruiser....
