Is AARP still evil?

I'll be turning 55 soon. I've been looking forward to age-based discounts for some time. Seems like it's the only birthday that helps anything since 21.
I'm getting AARP mailings. I know you can get lots of discounts with membership. In a thread about 6 years ago, Randy ranted about how evil they were.
Are they still evil? Is their evil enough to give up my selfish desire to get age-related discounts that come with membership or have they reformed themselves enough that it's OK at this point?
Fire away!

Wife has a membership. When the magazine shows up I handle it like Hazmat to put it in her mail spot
I hold grudges and remember their enthusiastic support for gun control in the past and their ongoing roadblocks to any reform of the Social Security ponzi scheme, even when legislation grandfathered their actual constituency.
lately I think they've been lying low on politics (haven't paid too much attention). Maybe they've realized their Boomer Hippie Leftist Activist population is ageing out and the incoming membership pool isn't interested? Be interesting to see what they put out as the election comes closer and it's down to Trump and whatever collectivist Democratic/International/National Socialist that runs against him.
Suit yourself. I'm still not interested. Between NRA, Air Force Association,USAA, credit cards, travel club, VFW and my state issued Veteran's ID, I get plenty of discounts on stuff I actually care about. Starting this year I'm eligible for a bunch more of senior discounts without spending my very limited funds on an organization I don't support.
Oh, and here's the rant I think Weet referred to:

Yes.
Why the uncertainty?

They have called me several times over the last few months. I am 53. I told them to fuck off every time.

The question occurred to me when I had no time to research, and I figured someone here would know the answer right off.
