Hmm, it seems to be back to normal after I did a complete shutdown of everything, including the gateway, did a "repair" of the connection, and switched the ethernet cable..

Makes me suspicious..

I still think it may be Verizon though..

It snuck in while fiddling with my AV software who's subscription was coming to an end..

this machine is still acting a little hinky, so I think a clean install is going to happen in the near future, once I can get ahold of the OS disk.

Yup. That's a nasty one. If the SOB who programmed that bit of spyware is reading this, they may want to learn morse code in case I should ever catch up with them. Just saying...
