Coworker Shot Sunday

As most of you know by now I work for an armored car company in Phoenix. While we have been robbed many times over the 3+ years I have worked there we have never had anyone injured. Well except for the guy who broke his hand after hitting the truck in anger over being robbed. Last Sunday we had our first shooting incident in quite some time. Our guy is OK, luckily he was just grazed in the hand and shot once in each inner thigh. The bullets went clean through, missed everything important, and the fellow is already back at home. From the sound of it the bad guy was desperate and scared shot our guy on accident when he tried to give him the money. Unfortunately the bad guy got away so we might see him again.

One thing I have noticed is that for whatever reason criminals are simply not shooting our guys in the vest. The last guy we had killed was up in Washington and the bad guys shot him in the head, making the fact he had a vest on rather moot. I don't know if our guy had a vest on or not, but from what I have heard it would not have done him any good. Perhaps we need to look into helmets and crotch plates.

Sorry to hear it; scary times.
It seems that the bad guys did not go to the Center-of-Mass school of firearms. In the 'hood it is most intimidating to point the gun at the face. I guess they didn't get the memo?
Your co-worker should count himself lucky. I assume the company pays for rehab?

I'm glad he's going to be okay. Of course, the problem with getting shot in the thighs is the risk of hitting the femoral artery. I'm sure you understand the seriousness of that kind of injury.

This story says he was only hit in one thigh and the hand. Big surprise the getaway car was reported stolen. The story doesn't say anything about the guard returning fire, but since it happened INSIDE a Walmart, I can understand him not wanting to engage in a gun battle with shoppers all around.

Ouch, good to hear that he should make a complete recovery.

Maybe you need more guys with guns.

This happened INSIDE a freakin' WAL-MART??? Scary times, indeed. Most robberies are not in such public places.

Most of the time we are robbed, in fact nearly 100% of the time, it's in a very public place. Inside a Wallmart, just outside a bank. SO usually neither party really wants to start shooting as out guy doen't want to hit innocent people and the bad guy would rather not face murder charges. That's what we think this guy was desperate and scared.

hmm, shot in the leg(s). Could just be a lousy shot with a terrible downward trigger flinch.

Chances are, he will be caught in a few days. Guys that pull stuff like that never know how to keep quiet.

Also, Wally-World puts the money they save by never having enough cashiers into security cameras.
