I know the feeling, went through the same thing six years ago Xmas.

I trust your insurance will cover most of the stuff but it's the memories lost!

That favourite piece of music from your CD or LP collection or that refeence book, the sweater or shirt you always say you're going to put on, to yourself, and then you remember.

Hope it goes a lot quicket with the insurance then my did/

Best wishes.

Yup - and that why every little bit anyone can donate helps so very much to give him a hand-up. I'm going to see what I can sell to donate to the cause.

Dammit, Mike, don't be selling stuff. Things are shaping up much much better than I ever possibly had a right to expect. You're not exactly in an advantageous situation yourself, and you certainly don't need to go that far. I do greatly appreciate everyone's efforts, but don't be starving yourselves or anything for me. It will be a long ways before I starve or sleep in my pickup. I might have to do without the extra batteries I had stashed, or not be able to see my old high school annuals, or fondle some of my favorite weapons, but I did survive and already have quite a bit of clothing, food, furniture, cash etc already.

I do have a PayPal account under jeffro@ucom.net. I did look at perhaps putting a donation button on my blog, but I've had my own reasons for resisting that for years. It greatly pained me to put up the bank info. I've always been an independent sort, and having to lean on others has been particularly difficult for moi. Remember I'm a rich landlord (heh) who does own a half interest in a half section of farm ground. Admittedly, half of it is pasture and the other half is dryland, which out here means not irrigated, which is a major bummer as far as values go. But if I sell it, Sis and I will be set up pretty well for quite a few years. Destitute doesn't really describe my situation.

Dammit, my stash of incandescent bulbs is gone, too. Shit. ;)

Oh, and dammit, I'm forgetting my manners. Thank you all for your thoughts, prayers and donations that some of you have sent. The banks are keeping track of addresses so Sis can mail out thank you notes to everyone. Luckily she is somehow related to Miss Manners, unlike her uncouth brother. Y'all might get old and die waiting on such societal niceties from me.

I, for one, am glad you overcame the pain and posted the bank addresses - I don't "do" anti-gun Paypal (hawk, spit).

Independence can be carried too far, even for rich landowners ;) . To quote my cynical and definitely not sainted father, "if someone wants to give you something, grit your teeth, take it, and just say, 'Thanks'. You will be doing them a favor by letting them feel good".

OBTW, if you have any influence over your mannerly sister, please convince her that I do not want a thank-you note. (My name is on the tag line below.)

No thank you note needed either. Keep us updated on your status and if you need anything specific.

Sent you an email. Deepest regrets, yet I'm glad things are looking up for you so quickly.

Tam, Roberta and Og all linked to me. Sitemeter and Feedjit went nuts yesterday compared to what I was used to. I get around 160 to 175 hits/day, and I ended up with close to 1500 yesterday, most from Tam. Interspersed were hits from here, Og and Roberta.
Google stats said I had almost 2800.

Fascinating. I'd really rather my writing ability would attract the traffic rather than a disaster. Just call me Mr. Butter Face Down.

I just wish I could offer more than prayers and good wishes... If you are ever out here in the Carolinas, you let me know, I can get the smoker fired up pretty easily for some good BBQ.
