And that brings up the best conversation item on my resume. I sang on the pier in Disney World in 1997.

I play bass and guitar, and I sing.

For me, the easiest way to learn was to take lessons. Seeing/hearing something done right, and being able to talk it through with someone who knows, really click with my learning style.

I had good bass and guitar teachers, though; they insisted I learn theory and play jazz and blues. Many ninth, thirteenth, augmented, and diminished chords, and equally interesting scales, ensued :) , and I am glad of it, especially now that I am more likely to be covering "When I Paint My Masterpiece" than "Moby Dick" or "Safe European Home." ("Safe European Home" still gets my ol' blood going, though.)

I hope to get an upright bass to supplement my old Precision, spend some time learning clawhammer guitar a la Mark Knopfler, and take piano lessons once I finish my doctorate. I have a polonaise in D minor in my head I'd like to finish.

I can fake several things on the harmonica (including Beethoven's Ninth).

My kids play violin, cello, and piano - can I get any credit for that? They bought me a viola, but I've shamefully neglected it.
Note to self: start reading sig lines. They're actually quite amusing. :D

In my yout', I played Stoneman style (i.e., melody) autoharp with a country band, blew blues mouth harp with a bunch of old black guys in bars on the west side, and sang bass-baritone/harmony with a dear friend, very Irish, born on the Oulde Sod, now long gone.

Not bad for a nice Jewish kid from the south side, I guess.

I don't but I should order one! I'm a long way from blue hair though. Maybe I should just get one that says High Caliber Diva.

Hmm. I like that. Tomorrow I will have it available on Zazzle.

Played trumpet in 5th grade.

Bought an acoustic guitar a few years ago, and after hearing one of my nephews tune his guitar, realized, there was no hope.

Last weekend, that same nephew played us his first demo CD. He did pretty much everything on it. Wrote all the songs, played all the instruments (guitar, bass, piano, drums, vocals, including backing), recorded (with some help), mixed, and cut the CD.

He is currently working as an manager at Starbucks. And he said one of his best customers was in "Papa Roach." Not that his CD sounded like that. More like John Mayer.

Heh. I was doing the roadie thing for the C.O.G. when they played the Hi-Ho Lounge last month, and while we were loading the gear from the Secret Lab into the trucks Dr. Z was going on about how someone had coded a virtual theremin for the Wii. Of course, between the cost of the Wii itself, the IR LEDs needed for the physical side of the hack, and the processor to convert the movement into [strike]fifties B-Movie UFO noises[/strike] theremin music, it'd be cheaper to get a top of the line Moog.
