Reloading Dies

Along with the reloading press, the die is the basic fundamental tool needed for all reloading. There are different dies designed to perform many functions, including resizing, case mouth or neck expanding, bullet seating, and crimping. The vast majority of reloading dies are manufactured to fit into the 7/8-14 threaded holes in standard presses, with a few notable exceptions. Each caliber to be reloaded generally requires a different set of dies, with the exception of some straight walled cases based on the same case head, an example of which would be .38 Special/.357 Magnum, which can both be reloaded using a .357 Magnum die set.

Dies not meant for use with standard presses include those for the Dillon Square Deal B progressive press, and the dies for the Lyman 310 reloading tool, which is a type of hand press. Another type of die in this category is the Lee Loader, which is a special set of dies meant to be used without any press at all.
