Condition 2

Term coined by Colonel Jeff Cooper to describe a carry condition of a Single Action Automatic such as the 1911 and the Browning Hi-Power.

A round is in the chamber and the hammer is down.

This is NOT a recommended carry mode as dropping the hammer on a loaded chamber requires pulling the trigger and easing the hammer down with your thumb. This vastly increases the chance of a Negligent Discharge (ND) if the hammer slips. The more often you do it,the more likely you will suffer an ND.
