I was reading about the Hawker Hurricane of WW II fame. When they were deciding how to arm it they didn't like the available 20 mm guns to slow and unreliable. So the decided on a .30 caliber. They test fired the Browning and were amazed by its reliability. They found it was not a problem to convert it to fire the .303 British . The Polish pilots use of the Hawker was interesting , "put gun against window, kill German pig, next!"
