Marijuana Harvester Apprehended
Ranger Bill Tadych was on foot patrol in a remote section of the park known to contain a large amount of wild growth marijuana on September 7th when he located several plots that appeared to have been "adopted" by someone just outside the park’s boundary. The ground around the plants was cultivated and surrounding vegetation cleared to allow sunlight to reach the marijuana. Many of the plants were over 10 feet tall.
Additional patrol of the area later in the day revealed a newly arrived mountain bicycle chained to a nearby tree. Additional rangers were called to the area to search for suspects. Within 10 minutes, rangers saw a 41-year-old man inside one of the plots, harvesting leaves from the plants. He was stripping the leaves off the plants and putting them into several gallon size plastic bags. Using their county deputizations, rangers Rich Eshenaur and Jennifer Jackson took the man into custody without incident. He admitted that this was not the first time he had harvested from the site. He was turned over to local authorities for prosecution. A mutual-aid eradication is planned for the area.

Indiana: Marijuana Harvester Apprehended
From NPS Morning Report for Tuesday, September 16, 2008:
POLITICIANS & DIAPERS NEED TO BE CHANGED OFTEN AND FOR THE SAME REASON
A person properly schooled in right and wrong is safe with any weapon. A person with no idea of good and evil is unsafe with a knitting needle, or the cap from a ballpoint pen.
I remain pessimistic given the way BATF and the anti gun crowd have become tape worms in the guts of the Republic. - toad

remind me again why we as a country are still wasting all this money over a plant that makes you lazy and hungry when you consume it?

Oh yes, the local sherrif is running the helicopter over-time searching the local hills and in co-operation with neighboring counties. They will find that secluded patch with a few stunted plants and boast to the local paper about how many millions of dollars of illicit weed has been removed from the street.

Heh, reminds me of an old story about a guy down the coast that used to take his boat on regular trips to import alcohol without bothering with the detour through custums. The story goes that he used to drop of part of his cargo on a dock out in nowhere and call the customs anonymously, before he went on his way home. Next day in the local paper there was the news of "record big alcohol find by Customs"Fivetoes wrote:Oh yes, the local sherrif is running the helicopter over-time searching the local hills and in co-operation with neighboring counties. Yes Eric. They pat themselves on the back and declare their need for more taticool toys to stamp out the demon rum, or marijuana. I wonder what would happen if I stretched some camo netting out back. Make it look like something suspicous growing under it.

If the guy was picking the leaves, he was doing it wrong.

I've heard stories about drug runners doing something like that around Florida. The way it was told to me was that prior to bringing a shipment of coke or whatever, they would drop garbage bags loaded with weed overboard so the cops were too busy chasing people who were picking it up on beach to worry about them.Erik wrote:...The story goes that he used to drop of part of his cargo on a dock out in nowhere and call the customs anonymously, before he went on his way home. spent 28 years in FL and never once heard of things like that happening... i did however hear about several times where they would send in 5+ speed boats at once, each loaded for bear... and only one would actually get caught.
