Federal HST now has 200gr 10mm loading

Post by Rich Jordan »

Apparently newly released; I haven't seen any live yet but if its as good as HST in other calibers it'll be a premium SD choice.

The downside; Federal sells LE packs of 50 rounds in other calibers, but only 20 round boxes for the 'civilian' market. Cost per round is staggeringly higher in the 20 round boxes. I don't know if the 10mm will be made available in LE packaging. The 20 round box has an MSRP of $34.95 ( )

I just bought 50 round boxes, I each of 9mm (124), .40, and .45 Federal HST from Outdoor Limited. They can be found, if you look around.

Right now, my choice in 10mm SD loadings is the Hornady XTP 180gr. Actually, it's Freedom Munitions loading of 10mm with Hornady XTP 180 gr bullets, because Freedom sells 50 packs and Hornady sells 20s.

But the XTP did very well, and amazingly consistent, in Lucky Gunner's testing. https://www.luckygunner.com/labs/10mm-a ... gel-tests/

I'd definitely be very interested in seeing what a 200 gr HST can do, given that the 180 Hydra-Shok did pretty well (not quite the penetration, nor the consistency of the XTP), and that the HST outperformed the Hydra-Shok in pretty much every other caliber.

Their catalog says "Full-power 10mm Auto load; 1130 fps muzzle velocity"

I think thats below the original Norma 200gr loads but still above the reduced power loadings.

For comparison, Buffalo Bore claims 1200 from a 200 grain jacketed bullet in 10mm, and Underwood claims 1250. Velocity of original Norma 200 grain loads listed at 1260.

Would be interested to chrono the Freedom Munitions load. Hornady 180 met their claimed velocity (actually exceeded it by a few FPS) out of my Glock 20.

I only tend to carry the 180 XTPs in the woods. Otherwise 180 Gold Dot over 10 grains of Blue Dot.
