Re: Surgery Wednesday
Surgery apparently went well. Esophagus enlarged, can swallow saliva now. Bigger than they got in August. Hopefully using it will keep it expanded. Trachea stretched too. Wearing a metal Trach tube. Will wear it through the weekend and then nights for a couple weeks. It should keep the stoma from shrinking again. I can use it intermittently after that to keep things embiggened.
Recovery room nurse left a lot to be desired. She had conflicting orders and made arraignments to have me hospitalized. Fortunately my Dr. talked to the Mrs. and planned on me going home. The nurse was less than stellar in several other areas as well, but I escaped her clutches.
Booked a hotel for last night and tonite in Phoenix. So spending the night, driving home tomorrow, Thanksgiving Day!

Re: Surgery Wednesday
Glad to hear you got through it and hopefully things will start improving.
Once you are out of Phoenix there are worse ways to spend Thanksgiving than seeing that scenery. I know I enjoyed the drive the time I visited.
Have a safe trip!

Re: Surgery Wednesday
Good news.
Friday afternoon, I was able to drink about 4 oz of beer. For therapeutic purposes only. Saturday I was able to drink a shake. And swallow a couple of my evening pills. This morning I was able to swallow my thyroid pill without difficulty. Rib eye steak and baked potato, here I come!
My stoma was smaller than a dime in size. Now it is nearly the size of a quarter. When I stop wearing the metal trach tube, tomorrow, I should not run out of breath nearly so soon.
