Need a new holster

Post by JKosprey » Sun May 13, 2018 1:25 pm

So, I bought a Glock 43 a couple years ago now. I love the gun; for a carry gun in a state that's just non-permissive in general, it's perfect. I'm still having trouble finding the right holster though. I have an OWB fobus, which works well, and I can use in the winter or the woods. Around town it tends to print, since I'm a skinny guy (6'2 and 180).

I've tried:
-Remora (just never feels secure enough for my liking)

-Alien Gear (I loved the fit and feel, but the cut was all wrong and didn't allow a full grip on the draw stroke. Sent it back after this actually caused an ND *in a safe place, during practice, thankfully)

Desantis Invader (holster is relatively comfortable but those plastic clips are fragile. I broke a 2nd set a couple of weeks ago.)

Thinking now about a Crossbreed Minituck. Thoughts?

I have several of this guy's holsters, and I have been pretty happy with them.

I have a couple of crossbreeds and think they are the bees knees. Is IWB the way you are going?

If you like leather (I do) check out Stoner Holsters.

I have an IWB for my Glock 17 and Darlin' Daughter has one for her 26. They have the only IWB for a J frame that I have found to be comfortable and functional (including Ted Blocker, my traditional go-to).

(A bonus for me is they are local to me. I found the J Frame holster on their "blemish" holster, and dang if I can see what the problem is, and for 1/2 price it was worth trying it. It doesn't have their lifetime warranty as a "blemish", but so far after a year no indication of any problems).

I have a couple Crossbreeds, too. They're great. Comfortable, retain the firearm well. Draw well. The only two things are, they can push the mag release on some guns, and some trimming may be necessary to get the best cut for drawing.

Drill a hole where your mag release button is, and trim a bit, and you'll have a great IWB holster.
Note to self: start reading sig lines. They're actually quite amusing. :D

Do you mind discussing the pros and cons of her 26 with me sometime? I have one and I'm still not sure if I should've gone with the 19.

It was strictly a matter of comfort in her hand. The 26 fit her hands better than the19 or 43, and she liked the smaller size for commencement than the 19.

She can shoot the 17 and my Hi Power just fine, just prefers the 26 as her primary for her first CCW piece.

We tried all the various sizes on rental ranges a couple of times each and she kept coming back to the 26.

Stayed with Glock due to my familiarity with the platform and magazine interchangeability with the 17. She can pick out something else when she's on her own dime.

Concealability was the determining factor in my choice, as well. However, it is just on the verge of being too small for my hand. I will probably buy a 19 at some point while also keeping the 26.

I run these on my Glock 29 and they help a lot. They had some sharp edges that I had to smooth over, but after that they have been great. I have the plain ones that don't add any capacity.
