lever action back pack ?

The place for general talk about gun, shooting, loading, camping, survival, and preparedness related tools and gear, as well as gear technology discussion, gear reviews, and gear specific "range reports" (all other types of gear should be on the back porch).

lever action back pack ?

Post by arctictom »

I bought a scabbard/sheath for my 45-70 guide gun that is a back pack, very neat use it in SE Alaska and it is great for trucking through the woods and still have both hands free and my rifle is still accessible. Now I cant find the web site , it is a guy out of Anchorage and he only produces a couple of Items , can any one help me out and point me at his web site ?? Thanks Tom.

I got curious, googled a bit, and found a few possibilities

http://www.akmining.com/cart/snowmobile ... kpacks.htm
http://www.davidjohnstonleather.com/ This one is only handguns though...
Maybe it's one of those?

It is almost as convenient as a hand gun it frees up both your hands and allows you to bush whack and the Guide gun or 18 "bbl shot gun but is still below your head so it does not hang up on brush.
And with a little practice the draw is smooth and pretty quick. I am sold on mine and needed the link for a couple friends in south east.
As a side note: if you bend over the long gun can slide out, so I keep the chamber empty.

I haven't tried that manufacturer, but I have a couple of Eberlestock gunslinger packs.

http://www.eberlestock.com/

I've used their classic "Gunslinger" pack on a couple of hunts. It has enough capacity for an overnighter (if it's not too cold), so it's a bit of a 'tweener'. Not enough for a real backpack, but too much for a day-pack.

I recently picked up an "X1" combo bow and rifle pack just because it was on sale for some 60% off price on some website. It's not as rugged as the "Gunslinger", but it's actually a very good day-pack. It is about half the weight of the "Gunslinger" and it has about the right carrying capacity for a day trip out of camp (about 2x a good fanny pack).

The way that case is designed, it looks like it would be fairly easy to mount to the side of a regular pack. Is there a drain hole in the bottom in case some water gets inside?

Their are a couple pack rifle combos that work OK but are not very effective for reaching back and grabbing your long gun, the AK Sportsman scabbard is designed to just hold your long gun.

It does attach easily to a pack, but it does not have a drain hole , it fits will enough that I have not gotten water in mine yet, and it rains a lot in south east Ak.
