How do you store your gun tools?

The place for general talk about gun, shooting, loading, camping, survival, and preparedness related tools and gear, as well as gear technology discussion, gear reviews, and gear specific "range reports" (all other types of gear should be on the back porch).

Hmm, I have about the same number of guns, but practically NONE of the stuff. I have a range box, and I have a drawer here and a drawer there with cleaning supplies and such, and that' sit. I'm good to go.

But the, I don't re-load, or do any smithing, nor do I care to.

I do worry though about all the ammo I have stashed throughout the house. I would like to have a large fireproof container for all of it, or a brick outhouse storage area, but not enough to do anything about it.

I've been thinking about putting a lidless chest freezer in the basement with a loop of plastic water supply line over it. If I have a fire, the plastic line would burn through and fill the freezer. My ammo is all in spam cans or ammo cans, so it should a) sink, and b) stay dry.

But I'm a procrastinator, too.
Note to self: start reading sig lines. They're actually quite amusing. :D

The serious de-gunking stuff: In a copy paper box in the basement.

The post-IPSC match/ range day stuff: In my range bag.

Repair stuff: Cellphone, phone numbers of trusted gunsmiths in town.

For security, I carefully place the guns back into their cases, heatshrink a plastic sleeve around the case and place it into a mould where concrete is poured. The concrete blocks, once set, are then placed into a non-load bearing decorative concrete block wall. It sucks to have to get out the hammer and chisel during an emergency, but this is Illinois, where children are attracted to guns like zombies to a MENSA lecture.

It's not enough.
Chris, your rollaway in your gun room is a little bigger of the Craftsman ones I was thinking of for my garage. I need to set my sights higher! The workbench I have now is about the size of cu74's, and it does have pegboard on the back, but it would be nice to have the tools and stuff organized into drawers. My other big problem is that I can't really get rid of the current one I have, as the wife and brother-in-law gave it to me. The "homeowner" chest that I have is fine if you don't do too much to your cars, it's enough to hold light tools and some jugs and cans.

On the it is not enough, I just keep accumulating accessories for guns I may or may not have!

I partially solved my ammo storage problem like this: http://theguncounter.com/forum/viewtopi ... =40&t=1291

I'm looking for another.

I got hold of some school lockers, a bank of three full sized ones and a bank of three half sized ones and put wooden shelves inside by just screwing through the thin side metal into the end grain...the full length ones hold long stuff like cleaning rods and guns that have to be cleaned and some of my long Kentucky style flintlocks with two shelves over the longest barrels...

The half size with doors above and below are divided the same way with wooden shelves to different heights and store cleaning boxes, hunting clothes, whatever is needed that is handy as there is one for each daughter to use...

I got from the school being torn down a couple of metal doored cabinets that were used to store paints and solvents in the custodians office and they are being used for powder...

Plus there are range boxes of plastic, metal, wood or leather, also canvas and leather range bags, Glad/Tupperware clear plastic boxes etc. to hold all the small thing that are necessary...

I've even got some old metal tackle boxes from when the kids were little converted to storage boxes...and some plastic ones that the gaskets failed and it’s cheaper to buy a new box then to get the gasket and glue…

Store guns & tools?

Isn't that why I have a house... ?

I have three small safes in the basement for the handguns and one long one for the most important of the long guns. The rifles which are too long for the safe go on a stand next to the safe which I made by fixing a horizontal board to a cheapo wooden wallpapering trestle with L-brackets. I put a bit of pipe lagging foam over the top of the trestle, so the rifles stand on the bottom board, resting against the foam above. I run a wire lock through all the trigger guards, so it's not practical to simply snatch a single rifle.

Tools: cleaning stuff goes in a plastic tub with a lid. Rods hang inside the long safe door. Reloading stuff goes on shelves in the garage, ammunition in a cupboard under the shelves, spare parts and specialist tools in little compartmented plastic tackle boxes, and general tools on or behind the workbench.

SeekHer, I like your locker idea. The hospital I work for via it's corporate overlord threw out some lockers similar to the ones you have. They were full height, three to a section, I guess riveted together at the factory. Oh, and a few single ones too. And too bad I didn't have a vehicle big enough to carry them home!

I keep my cleaning stuff inside a rocket box left over from the second world war.

I like the Kennedy machinist toolboxes, probably just because I have one. It has kept my files from rusting with whatever it is they put in the fabric inside the box.

YMMV.
