Gloves and Shooting

Post by 308Mike »

Do any of you use gloves when shooting? I've got a great thick fingerless shooting glove for my support (left) hand when shooting rifles, one so I can stuff it up tight against the sling swivel, and I have used on occasion my old Marine Corps nomex and lambskin flight gloves when shooting in the cold, but don't usually shoot with gloves.

The other day, I was on the Blackhawk! website (appears to have a LOT of mall ninja stuff) and checked their stuff on sale and ran across these gloves, which look like a pretty good deal, especially if they fit like my old flight gloves. I like the patch on the back of the glove, so you can wipe sweat out off your forehead, but the picture looks like they have a LOT more leather and might not fit as well as my flight gloves.

Any opinions or reviews about these gloves or similar ones would be appreciated. For that price, I might just get a pair anyhow and if nothing else, use them for driving.

Has anyone had any experience with ordering and/or customer service from Blackhawk?

Here's the glove's Mall Ninja description:
Identical to the S.O.L.A.G. with KEVLAR but uses NOMEX to achieve the coyote tan coloring preferred for desert ops. It incorporates BLACKHAWK! best selling S.O.L.A.G. design plus DuPont NOMEX thermal and flash protection. Ideal for entry teams, grenadiers, or any operator using pyrotechnic devices. Excellent tactility and dexterity. Dual back-of-hand and wrist adjustments make it one of the most form fitting and secure gloves on the market.

I can probably find Michael Bane, but who are the others? Please excuse my ignorance.

Uncle runs the Say Uncle blog:

http://www.saysuncle.com/

He blogs on guns, politics and such, I bet you'll like him. Sometimes another guy called tgirsch blogs there too, but Uncle's the main dude.

Here's Michael Bane's blog, he's a Colorado gunblogger and does a show on the Outdoor Channel, I believe:

I've started wearing them when giving the AK a workout. After 3 quick magazine it gets pretty damn hot.
Before owning an AK, I thought those fugly Romanian front stocks with the crude curved pistol-style grip were a silly joke. I don't anymore. They would be nice when the rifle is scorching hot and you needed to keep shooting.

I use a set of cheap Bell bike gloves with gel padded palms. They allowed me to shoot a Walther PPK and a Colt 1991 withouth having to band-aid my hands back together again.

And they're cheap

I wear a pair of Mechanix M-Pact Fingerless when I shoot, particularly my PA63. Without them, two magazines and it starts to hurt. With them, I can shoot 4-6 magazines before it starts to sting. It's the only gun I really need them for, but I usually just put them on at the beginning of a pistol session and leave them on.

I have never really worn gloves, but for some reason would like to. They seem ok, even if I am far from my preferred desert environment...
