Don't know if anyone has used them, but I've bought a few of those magnetic labels from www.ammocanmagnets.com.
They work like fridge magnets, and they sell all the regular ammo flavors, as well as some other labels for brass/medical/tools, etc. You just slap it on the latching handle or on the side, and away you go. Being magnetic, you can simply pull it off if you need to repurpose the ammo can.
I've also bought magnetic number lists so that I can see at glance the quantities that each ammo can contains. I just slip on some new numbers once I stock up.
