I found a Mark 4 No. 2 today, almost perfect condition. I noted the rear sight was further back and a peep sight that could be flipped up to be a long range adjustable peep ladder style sight. $195 OTD. I almost got it on principle, but waited too long. Now they are closed till Monday and I was wondering if I should make the effort to snag it then.
I am going to start to google around but thought my esteemed colleagues at the Fun Counter might have some G2 for me.
What say you?

Camp outside the store Monday morning so you can be the first one in the door when they open, then run in and grab it !!! That is an excellent price for any No4 in good condition, especially for a No4 Mk2. Those are all post-war production, so they generally don't have the wear & tear that wartime guns have.
The big change from the Mk1 to the Mk2 was that the mounting point for the trigger was moved to the receiver from the trigger guard, where it is on all previous Lee-Enfields. This makes for a consistent trigger pull. On previous marks, if the forend wood swelled or shrank with changes in temp or humidity, this could alter the bedding of the trigger guard, changing the pull weight & feel of the trigger.
If you pass on it, let me know where it is, please.

I will call and ask them to hold it for me then. I think it is what is described as an "Irish Contract" which would explain the cryptic remark the sales guy made about "Irish Coffee" or some such nonsense.
Seeing as it will serve with the Irish Mob and all I think it would be a very ironic purchase....
If I decide to pass it on at some point you two will get first dibs.

I'd offer him $175 and he throws in a box or ammo or $150 cash/cheque no C/C and you'll buy two (2) boxes of ammo...He’ll probably make more on the ammo then on the gun, maybe not as he probably didn’t pay more then $100 to $125 for it…Buy the ammo as you could always use the brass…
Sorry, can't help it after that jibe that Denis made!
Mind, what’s the worst that he could say—Yes! Then you’ll be bringing home a companion to the Mannlicher stocked one you so graciously said I could have…
You have a die set for the .303 don’t you? If not, then another selling point for you getting it for $150 -- buying all this peripheral stuff to go with it…If you bought a hard case, he’d probably have an orgasm!
Mind, $195 is a damn good price for a 4/4 and what most 4/2s are going for from the different mil-surp companies...The 4/2 and 4/4 were the picks for the sniper rifles because they had such a good trigger -- comparatively speaking of course...
There is a post that I and the Capt. contributed to a bit about the .303 and I believe you made, or were about to make, into a Wiki...Found it:
.303 British & Enfield SMLE Information Sites
Reme and World Gus have some nice photos of examples of the models and .303 British.com is excellent…

Must have missed Denis snarking off. The offer still stands on the Mannlicher stock SH, anytime you want it.
This would make my fourth Enfield and my second "correct" one. I really ought to get to loading that .303, I have WWI, WWII and some 1963 vintage ammo left I have been shooting anytime I felt the urge to make some noise with them.

Wasn't thinking post war...
Check out the photo section on this XD Talk Forum thread
Irish Contract for comparisons to yours...
and this well written range report from
Surplus rifle
Which ladder sight is it? Two bars with a crosspiece at the top that has a big knob on it or the one without the knob?

If it is a true Irish Contract, I'd still haggle, for the sake of it, and laugh out the door if you got it for that but wouldn't feel too, too bad over his asking price for a gun that will go for $600 to $800 if a true "Irish Contract!"No.4MK2's are very rare, (not that rare!) only 450,000 were produced compared to millions of MKIs. BUT MAKING IT EVEN RARER is the fact that its an irish contract rifle meaning: "...the rifle was manufactured for the Irish Republic, but because of political problems (duh) the rifle was never delivered and was kept in storage. Stratton makes reference to this fact, saying that only 50,000 rifles were manufactured for this order between the serial numbers PF309348 to PF359347 of which range my rifle's serial number falls within. These rifles are sometimes referred to as the "Irish Contract Rifles". "
RECEIVER MARKED: "No4MK2(F) 11/53 PF312597" has small import markings on underside of barrel.

That looks like the gun very much, including the mark on the left side of the receiver.
I called my buddy and Monday morning he is pulling it for me.
