"How heavily armed is your state?" POS CBS Story

Post by 308Mike »

It's a POS story, but at least they admit upfront their data is inaccurate and flawed (and I don't know when it was published) - emphasis mine:
Methodology

As America reels from yet another mass shooting, inevitable questions resurface about guns laws and the nation's pervasive firearm culture. Here is a look at per capita weapons data, based on the ATF's National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record, and 2013 data from the U.S. Census.

While the ATF's National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record is the only accessible list of its kind, it is not all-inclusive. NFA firearms only include the categories regulated by The National Firearms Act of 1934: machine guns, short-barreled rifles, short-barreled shotguns, suppressors, destructive devices like bombs and grenades, concealable devices with the ability to discharge a shot through the energy of an explosive, and any firearm with a bore over half an inch that has not been determined to have a legitimate sporting use.

At least for Commiefornia, they have photo from one of our local ranges here in San Diego county (Project Y2000):

When I moved to Montana, I think it jumped up a couple of places on the list.

What firearms info does the census have? And ranking it based on NFA registrations? That's weird and sounds useless.
Note to self: start reading sig lines. They're actually quite amusing. :D

That's so poorly conceived and constructed as to be useless.
There must be an end to this intimidation by those who come to this great country, but reject its culture.

Since some states pretty much ban nfa items this data is really skewed.
Since the larger fraction of gun people have no desire for nfa items that also skewed it.
Since a large part of the population think most nfa items are de facto illegal this also affects the data.

Or think you need a "Class 3 License" to own any of it.

Their data is.... questionable.

There are more guns in my COUNTY than they seem to think are in the entire state.

Yeah, there are more CCW holders in my state than the total number of gun owners they claim.
