LEVERevolution bullets

Post by blackeagle603 »

Just got a new Midway flyer in the mail. This is the first I've seen LEVERevolution bullets available for reloaders. Up til now it's only been available in Hornady ammo.

$26/100 for the .30 cal bullets. That's competitive for a clad hunting bullet.

I'm needing to work up several different loads for the 30-30 I bought this fall. Been starting to shop/price bulk brass buy online. Still haven't picked up any dies.

My plan is to load large qty of cast bootlits for range time and social situations (Cowboy Assault Rifle mode). However, I will also need to load Pb-free slugs for hunting pigs up in Central California Condor range.

Might have to give these Polymer tips a try for longer range opportunity like deer in open country. Be interesting to see if they're 'all that the and the crackers too' as advertised.

Meh. I think at .30-30, .45-70, and .450 Marlin velocities, I would rather have a flat nose bullet with a wide meplat, and give up some range and trajectory in exchange for better performance on game.

I think you know this (but just in case) the LEVERevolution bullets are not PB-free, you will want something like a barns-X.

Yep, I know they're not Pb-free. That's what i was alluding to in my mail about wanting to work several different loads. The Pb-free slugs are ~$35/50 so they'd be special case loads only. Outside condor range for shorter range work out to ~150yds for deer or pigs I'm perfectly happy with cast boolits. The LEVERevolution bullets are interesting for more open country like we have out east of here in the desert.

I'm perfectly happy with traditional flatnose 30-30 ballistics. Shoot, I was shooting 180 RN handloads a long time in my 30-06.

However, the improved ballistics in a 30-30 spire point have got my attention. In the Hornady factory loading it turns it into a useful 250-300 yd rifle on deer size game.

At least in my book 12" drop at 300 yds and still carrying over 1000 ft/lbs energy is useful.
It's especially interesting when you consider a traditional 30-30 170gr FP is dropping over 35" at 300 yds and not even carrying 600 ft/lbs of energy.

250 fps icrease is nothing to sneeze at. Esp when coupled with a big increase in BC.

Well, if you can consistently score 300 yard hits to the vitals of deer sized game with a .30-30 lever action, you are a far better rifleman than I.

I'd be happy to score consistently with any rifle at 300 yds.

Point is, the external ballistics of these bullets make the seemingly ridiculous now possible with a 2 MOA 30-30. If that can be had...
