Happy .300 Blackout loads

Post by Rich Jordan »

Today I finally made it to a range, first time in a couple of months. I had rolled up some test loads for my .300 Blackout AR using Hornady 125gr SSTs and IMR-4227 powder, with 0.2 grain increments. The groups drifted a little with the powder charge variations but overall well under 1/2" (50 yards, indoor range).

Not only did all of them function perfectly, even the lowest charge, but they all exceeded the accuracy of every factory round I've used so far.

The Remington 120gr factory loads I also fired for test did ok also.

I did have problems with some reloads using the Berry's 220gr plated bullets. I'm not sure what the cause was and I ran out of range time because they were too busy, as usual on weekends. The cartridges fit a Sheridan gauge just fine, so it may be related to the charge being too low or cartridge OAL being a little long (though it came from book loads).

I'm buying more 125gr SSTs... nice nice bullets.

Sounds like a good range trip and a good batch of reloads.
