Does anyone have any experience with Grizzly Ammunition? I'd like to get some hot loads to try out in a Marlin 1895, and the Grizzly is about 10-20 bucks less than roughly equivalent Buffalo Bore. If it won't blow up my gun because of bad quality control, I'll probably end up getting this, if you were curious.
On a similar note, where would I go about finding published (reliable, safe) 45-70 load data for bullets above 400gr? Every data book I've seen has either 350 or (rarely) 400gr as the max, and I'd like to load a 500gr, just for shits and giggles. I searched the forum to the best of my abilities, but it seems to not actually have been discussed on this iteration.
Thanks in advance.

Depends on your definition of published, and whether or not you trust this data:
http://www.realguns.com/archives/117.htm
Says it was developed in a Ruger #1, BUT the author used an Oehler model 43 to test the chamber pressures, and he didn't go beyond safe Marlin levels. So it should be safe. We loaded up some 405s using this data for my brother's Guide Gun, but I can't recall if he actually tested them yet. That was the trip where he shot my Chrony, and ended data collection efforts prematurely. Never got back to it after that. He may have fired some of them without the chronograph.

Re: Heavy 45-70 ammo
I shoot 500 grain loads in my Sharps, but it's a 12 lb rifle and I only use black powder, so I doubt you'll get the experience you're looking for.
I shoot 405 grain bullets out of my Handi rifle, but only push them about 1500 fps, which generates plenty of recoil to keep me happy. I'm no recoil-wuss, but that little gun kills on one end and cripples on the other. You do not want to shoot it from a bench.

The standard 300 gr factory SP/HPs from the various manufactors all run about 1800fps. I have yet to have one stay in a deer.

I can see that... I probably won't be taking it deer hunting, if I ever get around to doing that; it's more a fun gun.Termite wrote:The standard 300 gr factory SP/HPs from the various manufactors all run about 1800fps. I have yet to have one stay in a deer.
If I don't find any good 500gr smokeless loads, I'll probably end up using the Oregon Trail Laser Cast 405s; easy to find, not TERRIBLY expensive, and I've had good luck with the bullets in other calibers. That data should do nicely, thank you.Netpackrat wrote:http://www.realguns.com/archives/117.htm
