Last week when I wasn't feeling so bad, I was looking through the 'Net at Finish and other Scandi grind knives. I got out my little hide out knife, 1.9 inch blade, two finger hole grip, heavy scrimping on top of the blade, in a kydex holster, and I used a crock stick, a triangular stone for serration sharpening, and put a Scandi edge on it. I stropped it on the rubber sole of a slipper. The blade is stainless.
I was surprised at how wicked sharp that it came out. It got me to thinking about a couple of Marinini knives I saw for sale. It struck me that the blade is relatively short in comparison to the handle. I'm guessing the handle gives you a lot of leverage on that short blade, and the size and shape of the handle lets you grip it hard enough to prevent for and aft slipping. I've got the feeling that one of the Scandinavian short bade carbon steel blades would let you do a rather long cut through heavy material in a social emergency??????

The blades will do that, no bother. The only problem is that the traditional Nordic knives don't have finger guards, which are pretty much essential for social work. The good news is that Mora still sells the "Scout" models, with finger guards, and that both Mora and Marttini have modern designs with ergonomic grips and/or finger guards.
