Just picked up a Lansky ceramic rod to take camping/keep in the Jeep.

Do these ceramic rods also take the place of a good steel? In other words, do they straighten the edge like a steel does?

ETA: It's this bad boy: http://www.amazon.com/Lansky-8-Ceramic- ... 700&sr=8-1

The definitive answer is yes and no!

The do everything that an Arkansas stone does but not what a steel (like a file) or diamond hones would...Of course it depends on the severity on the nick.

I had the pocket version in my packbag at all times to touch up filleting blades.

Ok! I'll keep this one for camping and keep the regular fluted steel in the kitchen.
