C-130 Crash Landing *Updated*

Post by Darrell »

Interesting pics of a C-130 crash landing over in Iraq. Everybody walked away from it, she's a tough old bird. Warning, this is over at Ernie's House of Whoopass, site is NSFW.

OUTSTANDING! I'm glad nobody got hurt! I love the hasty perimeter, but what's it around? ;)

Now someone's got a cleared 600 yard firing lane for a rifle range. :D

I like the mention of the Asymetric Warfare Groups. I know next to nothing about them; gonna have to ask the XO when he gets back from leave....

I saw a film clip of a C-130 JATO crash landing on Discovery a day or two ago, IIRC, I'd never heard of it before--the mission was called Credible Sport, the intent was to use a C-130 with JATOs mounted top and bottom, forward and back, to land the plane in a soccer stadium in Tehran (the soccer stadium bit DOES sound familiar), pluck the hostages from the nearby American Embassy, then take off again. The first clip shows a failed test, amazingly, everyone walked away from the crash; looks like JATOs do a good job lighting spilling fuel when the wing breaks off! The second clip shows successful tests of the system (the takeoff looks like the plane needed about ten feet of runway), and then the failed test again. Wow.

I saw that too. Simply amazing! I wouldn't want to be on that bird, watching those forward-facing JATOs firing out in front of me!!

Minor nitpick. Those aren't parts of the nose landing gear they're 2 of the mains. Not that it ..... matters much..... just saying....

Damn, It was an H model too.

If you look at the date on the Wikipedia page you will see that it is Oct. 29, not much time left for that strategic October surprise. The day before during the debate Reagan asked "Are you better off today than you were four years ago?". Peanuts was gasping at straws. If he really wanted to free the hostages he knew all he had to do was walk away.
