My bad, I neglected a critical variable...

I do believe the stall speeds at mission loaded are only slightly different, something like 20 mph
Relative to the Nav, totally different mission, which is the key point, (and muddled by me mangling the quote, it should say "to do what we want" vice "carrier capable.)

Any time people talk about pulling anything out of the boneyard, I want to ask them what the hell they think is actually in there. Because it seems like they're laboring under the delusion that they have flight-ready jets just waiting to have the cling wrap peeled off and fuel pumped in, when in reality what we've got are a bunch of airframes that've been cannibalized down to the bones. That's why, on the rare occasion one is actually returned to duty, it's a months-long restoration process.

Since apparently we can't get rid of the BUFF, and it actually has a higher cost per flight hour than the B-1B, it's long past time someone realized that a modernization package that includes reducing the number of engines by half is a must-have.

Drone swarms? Hi, my name is ECM. Bye. Just drop a damn CBU-105.

Re: the F-15X itself, frankly? This should've happened as soon as the F-22 was prematurely cut off.

As for the F-35 vs A-10 schtick, Vietnam was over 44 years ago. It's time to recognize that avionics and munitions have changed a bit in the interim. Also, y'know, the A-10 was proven totally obsolete for anything but beating up on people who can't shoot back in Desert Storm, its supposed redemption story. Y'know, back when it was withdrawn from frontline duty to excessive losses. Those sure were the glory days.
Quite frankly, we pulled the A-10s back from going up around the Republican Guard and kept them on Iraq's (less formidable) front-line units. That's line if you have a force that allows you to do that. In this case, we had F-16s to go after the Republican Guard.

Q: At what point did you do that?

A: I think I had fourteen airplanes sitting on the ramp having battle damage repaired, and I lost two A- 10s in one day [February 15], and I said, "I've had enough of this." It was when we really started to go after the Republican Guard.

Initially, much of the air assets were devoted to strategic targets, to make sure we got those down, while we were also hitting the frontline forces. As we killed off the research and development stuff-storage, those kinds of targets-we brought more and more assets into the Kuwait Theater of Operation. We really started heating the battle up in the KTO.
It's well past time to stop putting lipstick on the Hawg.

Well, the A-3 Skywarrior was carrier launched and had a takeoff weight of something like 82-84K lbs (within the same range as a standard loadout for the Aardvark), with half the thrust/weight ratio of the F-111.

So if we can make that work, why not an improved F-111?
/hijack/
I'm a fan of the A-3 -- from a distance, hiding in a catwalk, and likely changing my shorts if I had to stay out near the foul line to do my job. Douglas could build some reliable beasts -- to rival Bethpage Ironworks. But let's just agree to keep the memory and movies of the Whale dance alive and put nothing like that on the roof ever again. Besides you could probably spot 2 Tomcats and almost 3 Bugs in the space an A-3 took up. Quantity has a quality all its own.

Oh and the crews... Deathtrap, no quick way out in a pinch. Respect for them kept those of us riding in the back of an E-2 from whining about egress speed.

She’s probably been in the ground longer than you’ve been alive, but nice try.
