Constitution Day (also Antietam)

E Pluribus Unum -- today more than ever I pray.

<esp after going a round or two yesterday with people who in the final analysis revealed they disdain and have discarded the Constitution and instead favor a pure democracy for us.>

Founded on an idea, bound by a set of founding principles. That which makes America "exceptional" or if you prefer, "weird."

To borrow from Sarah Hoyt's essay "Our Weird Country," "Unlike other nations, we lack a unity of blood or any historical reason for existing as a nation other than our constitution.... We’re a nation of principles, of paper, of laws. Take our law away and we’re nothing: a group of unrelated peoples living in a common area, that’s it."

"The Guncounter: More fun than a barrel of tattooed knife-fighting chain-smoking monkey butlers with drinking problems and excessive gambling debts!"

"The right of the citizens to keep and bear arms has justly been considered, as the palladium of the liberties of a republic;" Justice Story
