Two dead citizens. For the most part no prior contact with Law Enforcement. A paid informant fingers them as black tar heroin dealers. They use the self same informant to make a confirmation buy (no conflict there). Then raid the house killing the pit bull with the first shot fired, then fatally shooting the wife as she struggled with an officer. The physically disabled husband retrieves a 357 and manages to wound four officers before being fatally shot himself.
None of the six officers in the raid had on body cameras. First, I find that very convenient and hard to believe in this day and age, especially at a huge department like Houston. Can anyone say unlimited immunity? Second Police Chief Avecedo is a vocal anti-gun crusader who is using this "incident" to call for more common sense confiscation practices.
Am I the only one that sees a series of fails, convenient excuses that all fulfill a desire and narrative? Not to mention two dead citizens, a dog and got 4 officers shot while recovering "recreational quantities" of marijuana and ZERO heroin.
Am I the only one that sees myself also dead in that circumstance, but likely having taken a few servants to Valhalla with me?

It's a shame the resident didn't use a rifle.

Sounds like they should charge the paid informant as an accessory to murder.

True, but that would require admitting the police were wrong to act in the first place. Not gonna happen without serious pressure and media hype. Not happening in other words. Pity.

Inspite of the RCOB moment (yet again) that came to me reading this. There's some encouragement that I first saw this in social media among non-gunnie friends. Awareness of the no-knock issue is leaking out into the mainstream it would seem (finally).

FWIW, the raid apparently took place within a couple blocks of this incident: https://www.personaldefenseworld.com/20 ... attackers/ (From an officer on my shift who knows people in HPD, the homeowner apparently has gang connections. So this was really turd-on-turd violence.)
From my point of view (and I"m a cop), "potential destruction of evidence" is a BS excuse for executing a no-knock raid. They unncecessarily increase the risk of violence for a situation where there is no danger to life or limb if the cops do nothing. (Hostage situation or such things, different story.)
There are things, from my foxhole, that could be done. Like send someone at Oh-dark-30 to turn off the water, wait for the inhabitants to do their morning thing (thus emptying the toilet tank) and figure out the water's out. Then call them out. Use a PA system if you like.
We had to use a variant of this - Cordon and Knock - in Afghanistan. And that was for bad guys who were, literally, "Wanted: Dead or Alive" - we had Capture/Kill authority for named targets.
(Fun fact: because the drug stuff under Texas law resides in the Health and Safety Code, the cops are literally conducting a No Knock raid for a health code violation.)

According to Sefania Okolie, the police told the homeowner he had done the right thing.
There were no charges filed against the defender. He was not wounded. There were no reports of contraband being discovered at the shooting scene.
