Don't delete it, just lock it if everybody is done with it.

This does explain Chris' explosion of Facebook postings. Pent up need to write with the loss of an outlet.

I am increasingly uncomfortable about the lynch mob, pitchfork and torch mentality that seems to be forming here. To me, like-minded does not equate Group Think. I always liked the way most people here had their own minds, even if that mindset drove me fuckin' mental. I trust CC (no reason not to) but I also trust(ed) Chris, again because I had no reason not to. I am unwilling to run with the crowd, follow the party line or whatever. Sorry if this angers those whom have been wronged by Chris, but all I want is the evidence with which to make up my own mind.

So, is there any way that Chris could face and answer the accusations levelled against him here? Surely this is the way of civilised men. It would not be the easiest way, it would be a lot harder than consigning somebody to history without a hearing, but it would be the correct way. I have often thought that doing things the right way is often a lot, lot harder then doing things the wrong way.

Cheers- Rusty

Rusty,

In my experience, and I have lots of it; Chris will not face the public stain on his public persona. My wife and I went through many attempts with that. I contacted the mods (less Chris) as far back as 2 years ago about a business transaction gone completely bad. This was of course after I had been politely requesting performance for several months. They did the same thing (although I was not privy to those conversations). This went on for at least 4 rounds of attempts over that 2 year period.

At first I was given vague promises on performance with excuses much grander then what he had been announcing on TGC. I let is slide while he was battling cancer. Each time he would begin singing about his newest great job, I would remind him. This would get more excuses then silence. After a while, the only way he would communicate with me was when I posted something here about the situation, which he would delete within minutes. Then I would get an email stating how his situation did not allow him to honor his contract, how he really wanted to, but...

I (probably along with a few others) have been slowly driving for this for a while. CC (and some of the other mods) have been very direct with Chris all along the way. They have offered him to go public with his failures, have offered to assist him in selling things, have offered to act as a private pawnshop for guns so he can clear his debts. Promises were made, no actions ever followed them. All while requesting and / or accepting help/ lodging / money from the group.

I am not looking to vilify Chris. I am completely certain that he has things in his life that are not good. I also have no idea where his story and the truth diverge. I came to the conclusion a long time ago, that I would never see any of the money I sent him for my prototype and it really isn't huge money. For a couple that just battled breast cancer with no insurance, it was big money to us.

My wife's renewed battle with cancer is what lit a fire under us to get this resolved. His well wishes on the MRI threat infuriated my wife. This is what pushed us to risk the ban hammer and officially warn the rest of you about our results in dealing with Chris.

I agree with NPR, don't delete it, lock it. It will fall into the memory hole, but should anyone need reference or perspective, it will still be there.

Barring something really over the top, I am done with this thread. Chris made his bed. Chris gets to sleep in it.
If he wants vindication, to make justification, he can use other public or private methods. Not the least is following the AA method of contacting all "victims", apologizing then making amends if the other party is willing to accept it and/or mend fences.

P, thanks for the reply, just wish there was a rebuttal or mea culpa coming on.

My own personal character arc involves not a few years of interacting with members of this and the previous fora. Digesting the differing opinions displayed over some 10(ish) years gave me a whole new outlook on life far different than that given to me by my upbringing. This is why I am so far unwilling to drop this- I'm not just dancing on the bones and using it for effect, this kind of means something to me.But perhaps you are right, this isn't about me and I should just drop it. Again, thanks for taking the time to reply.

As an aside, I can't begin to imagine how raw this has left you. On all levels you've been kicked in the slats yet conduct yourself as a Gentleman.

I wish you and your good wife all the best. Rusty

Rusty,

I should probably stated that I am done with Chris on this thread - for that matter I am done with Chris period. But I very much want this community to find peace and hash out this issue then get back to what makes us such a great place.

Thank you. My wife and I are not happy with her diagnosis, but we are happy.
As far as being a gentleman. I am NOT a gentleman by nature. It takes work sometimes, this is one of those times. Her situation helps me to see what is truly important and tilting windmills at a few thousand dollars / bashing the person who absconded with it are not that important. I / we are choosing to focus on the positive. We just wanted the rest of you to not have to face similar disappointment at the hand of a (former) member.

I truly wish Chris would figure out, running from his problems only make them worse. Then he could begin the long road to amends. I honestly don't think he is anywhere near that place; but, hopefully he finds himself there sooner then later.

I never had any personal dealings with Chris. Jennifer and I had our reasons for fading out around here. Many of those reasons had very little to do with any of the content or users here, but some of them may have. I've been in contact with Precision as well as a couple/few others of you miscreants. :D Anyway, we'll see what happens from here.

And, if I still owe you a holster, I will make good on it, albeit slowly. Sorry 'bout that.

Here's a little unsolicited advice for everyone. Please excuse the presumption.

When I have dealings with someone who burns me or someone I trust to give me the unshaded story, I treat the relationship like I would treat a camp fire. I just withdraw to a distance where it won't burn me anymore. That usually does not mean cutting them off entirely, although it could be wholly justified, as in Precision's case.

As a trivial example, my brother habitually disappears when we're supposed to sit down for a holiday meal. So, I will never hold it for him again. We eat on time.

As Rusty mentioned, I think everyone here really does have his own mind. Each will choose his own safe distance.

I think this thread has pretty much run its course. If another mod doesn't get to it sooner I propose we lock it today or tomorrow and then change it from a global announce thread to a regular one a day or two later.

I agree. This was cathartic for a few and puzzled others. Let me clarify and I will let it rest.

I banned Chris for taking money from the members to use for the members and instead spent on himself. He refused to be accountable for it and here we are. It is part of a larger pattern that has come to my attention and I could no longer in good conscious stay silent and do nothing.

That's all. Doc and I are having a splendid time reducing the red and roe deer population here. We have had a tough year but still got 13 in 5 full days of stalking in the mountains and glens.

More later when we get back after the 4th!
