Ancaps are delusional.

I have David Friedman's book 'The Machinery of Freedom'. It's by a *very* bright guy, and I've seen ancaps describe it as about the best condensed argument for their philosophy you can find.

The first couple of chapters are actually good. But I had to put it down. In the section on dealing with crime/law enforcement/contract enforcement/courts, the handwaving got so bad it became incoherent. Because ancaps are fundamentally incapable of constructing any system that administers punishment. By their own system of definitions, anything capable of administering punishment is a government.

The section on national defense is where I just couldn't continue.

Yeah, at the end of the day they basically seem to all be saying "you know, I'd really like to live in a country where the biggest insurance company is the government."

I found this quote in a thread on the topic.

"Given the enormous waste in all wars and defense preparations in all countries throughout history, it is certainly not beyond the bounds of reason to propose that private, voluntary defense efforts would be far more efficient than government boondoggles. Certainly these efforts would be infinitely more moral."

Bottom line, they don't give a shit if it works, only that's it's "moral". They also ways use the highly defenseable United States as an example and never deal with the effect going anarcho would have on a country like Poland.

It really shouldn't have surprised anyone what happened to Incandescent and Inflammable at Jutland.

I found the comic posted elsewhere in a thread where that was being discussed. I thought the humor stood well enough on its own to just repost the image here. :D
