We had an employee with an Uber German last name that she mispronounced to avoid saying "Reich."

She was bat shit crazy, air cooled, didn't know her job all that well, and was all thrust/no vector.

We called her Ilsa.

Something about an above-average looking Polish woman and her merry band of Austrian musicians... okay, just the woman.

This sounds like my youngest daughter, except it is spelled Ilse and that is actually her name. (The allzu deutschen Familiennamen doesn't sound like reich though)

Far away power? it's only 225 miles from London to Brussels. You can drive farther than that in most of the states and still be in the same state.

Well, it's more in the "unelected, far away from our ideals" manner, than actual distance.

Jericho, that dude was head of the Econ department at UAF when I was there.... I only had him as a substitute one day while my professor was ill, but he was a fairly interesting guy. Was well known to be packing in violation of University policy. Later on he was busted for bootlegging liquor to dry villages, and growing dope.

You should probably put the jacket out first, in case it's smoldering instead of just smoking

That's one thing that always fascinated me about perceived race ever since I read a novel where a native American guy realized that on one hand, it was irritating that all the Indians looked the same to white people, but on the other hand, it was hardly as though he could tell an Irishman from a Swede; they were all just white to him. It's also something I've noticed personally; depending on what kind of environment I'm in and for how long, I get used to how different people look and can spot the little differences, but it goes if I've been away too long.

I suppose it's a cheap comparison, but every once in awhile some video of Lakenheath F-15s or Moody A-10s pops up and I think "don't I know that guy?" for a few seconds before I realize just about every military guy looks the same to me now. Yeah, the military emphasizes uniform appearance, but still. I used to be able to look into a crowded room of military men and see individuals, now they all look standard issue.
