Tipping Car Dealer Courtesy Van Drivers

I don't mind tipping cab and shuttle van drivers, these people make their livelihood from being professional drivers, but today I had my car in the dealer's for service and used their shuttle to drive me to work and pick me up and get my car. The dealership is making a pretty penny off my business, and I know these people do more than just drive people around for the dealership (I imagine they'd rather drive people around than wash the cars in the lot).

So what's the deal, do you tip their courtesy vehicle driver or not (I've never seen it done)?

i dunno, ive only used them a couple of times and never even thought to tip...

I'd probably tip, but I kinda tend to overtip everyone who deserves it (not those with horrible service, of course), so perhaps I'm not the best person to ask.

Also, while we're on the topic, if you use a full- or mini-service gas station (for those of you in Oregon and New Jersey), tipping is not expected, but it certainly makes the attendant's day a hell of a lot better.

Yes, and in New Jersey. Like I said, we never expected tips, but they do make having to deal with people who won't wait their turn a lot better.

I've never seen anyone tip a courtesy driver... Maybe in NYC/other places where I think you have to tip a man to breathe...

Yea, i think we have gotten in the habit of tipping for way too many things. I hate it when stores put a tip jar out, and its clearly not a situation your average person is going to tip, just to get a few extra bucks. Tips have become expected, and are no longer a reward for exemplary service. A waitress can have a bad attitude and take 45 minutes to bring you ice cold food, and she is still probably going to get 15%. It pisses me off at the end of the meal, when you are paying, and they ask "do you need change?" as if they are expecting you to tell her to keep the change. They should automatically bring you change unless you say otherwise.

Yep, have tipped the van drivers when they do "extra service" --like load your bags and give good directions to the best restaurants. I fly my own plane and when the folks who drive and find the FBO's at the airports (many times almost hidden from the main terminal) I am grateful.
I do not automatically tip anyone who does not give good service. If it is a waitresses fault ,I let management know and cut the tip accordingly !!!!!

If i have a problem with any business, I try to let management know , so that they can correct it. When I pay for something , I expect it to perform , cause I was in business for almost 40 years and I had to perform .
