The ocean is a different salt then used on the streets but aside from that it eats the Hell out of auto bodies...What the Hell is a ten-year warranty good for if you own a rusted out frame at the end of it...Besides it also erodes the cement/asphalt and kills the vegetation along side the roads making them have to replant it which makes their road budget go higher and means more taxes out of our pockets…

We don't use salt in Colorado, usually just sand. They have tried some snow/ice melt substitutes. Heck, driving on snowpacked roads is a fact of life up in the high country.

You know, it wouldn't be nearly so bad if people actually took care of their windshield wipers and tires, replacing them as needed and keeping their tires well inflated (ESPECIALLY when it rains).

The BASIC hydroplane speed of a standard passenger car tire is figured: Square root of tire pressure x 9 = BASIC hydroplane speed. Say your tires are inflated to 36 PSI, the square root of 36 is 6, 6 times 9 equals 54 MPH for your BASIC hydroplane speed. Now if you drive into a 4 inch deep puddle that's 20 feet long at 50 MPH, you're going to hydroplane even though 50 is below your BASIC hydroplane speed. Of courtse, water depth is also a factor.

Now things like tread depth and tire width also play into how to push the limits or if they pull you down slower.

When it gets ready to rain, make SURE to check your tire pressures.
