Dovetail Jig Suggestions

Post by John_in_Longview »

I want to use my router to make dovetail joints, so I am in the market for a jig. I see that Porter-Cable, Leigh, and Keller are popular suggestions. I will mainly be making replace drawers for dressers and perhaps some boxes for the wife and kids. I don't see needing to go over and inch and a half in the thickness of the boards I would use. Anyone have any favorites or those I should avoid?

Thanks,
John

Be careful buying Porter Cable tools these days... They got bought a few years ago, and now most of their tools are re-branded Chinese crap.

Stay away from Porter Cable, most of it these days is overpriced Chinese junk.

The best two are Akeda and Leigh. Neither are cheap.

I'm no expert cabinetmaker by any stretch of imagination. However the two guys I know who do (or did) it for a living turned me on to Rockler for wood tooling like you describe. They seem pricey but it's seldom that you get what you want that you don't pay for.

One thing I will say is if you have a bunch of the older (good) Porter Cable tools as I do, DeWalt seems to be still stocking most of the parts for them.

Thanks. I would need to purchase a base plate for my Bosch router to use with this jig, but it would still be cheaper than the Leigh.
