Pirate captain walks into a bar. He looks like your standard pirate captain for the most part - fancy hat, eyepatch, parrot on his shoulder, scraggly beard, hook for a left hand, pegleg, the works - except that he is very notably wearing a ship's wheel on his penis.

The bartender looks at him and says, "Uh, do you know that you're wearing a ship's wheel on your penis?"

Pirate captain replies, "Aaargh, I know! It drives me nuts!"

I'm full of random thoughts.

Just now I thought about eating a giant deep fat fried Twinkie. Twinkies have a long shelf life. Life hey that's a fun game, you know the one with the little cars and the blue and pink pegs for your wife and kids. Kids are baby goats. Goats are the number one source of stress relief for UN peace keepers. Peace through superior firepower. That's a cool t-shirt. T-shirts are okay I guess, but what's wrong with the other 25 letters of the alphabet? I'm glad we only have 26 letters in our alphabet, I mean what's up with the Japanese and their fifty bazillion letters. Letters are cool but nobody sends them anymore, everybody sends email. Email is sometimes called spam. Spam, I pity the troops that had to eat that crap during WWII. World War Two, are we keeping track? I think we lost count sometime during the cold war. War war never changes, it's always consisted of hitting giant scorpions with sledgehammers. Sledgehammers are heavy. Heavy metal is usually played loud at concerts. Concerts have good concession stands. I wonder if they sell deep fat fried Twinkies?

I say to hell with Simon and all of those American Idol twits. I get sick of hearing people talk about reality TV. I just don't give half a shit about it! My life is interesting enough without watching what amounts to an old-style Japanese game show. Some people need to turn off the set and get a hobby.

But where the sovereign person is not identifiable independently of the rules, we cannot represent the rules in this way as merely terms or conditions under which society habitually obeys the sovereign. The rules are constitutive of the sovereign, not merely things which we should have to mention in a description of the habits of obedience to the sovereign. So we cannot say that in the present case the rules specifying the procedure of the electorate represent the conditions under which the society, as so many individuals, obeys itself as an electorate; for "itself" as an "electorate" is not a reference to a person identifiable apart from the rules.

It is a condensed reference to the fact that the electors have complied with the rules in electing their representatives. At most we might say (subject to the objections in Section I) that the rules set forth the conditions under which the elected persons are habitually obeyed; but this would take us back to a form of the theory in which the legislature, not the electorate, is sovereign, and all the difficulties, arising from the fact that such a legislature might be subject to legal limitations on its legislative powers, would remain unsolved.
And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm Reliance on the Protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our Fortunes, & our sacred Honor

A gentleman unarmed is undressed.

Even for California this one was over the top:

Proposition J would have imposed a $98 annual levy on homeowners, $60 for each unit of multi-family housing and $450 on commercial/industrial properties.
...
Supporters said the parcel tax would provide a consistent stream of local funding that can't be affected by the whims of Sacramento legislators.

It would have actually give the local school board the authority to decide who has to pay the tax.
Over 60% voted NO!

Sometimes you get the bear and sometimes the bear dines on human flesh!

Spotted a Kodiak bear in 1971. My room-mate ET3 Tom Lilley and I were looking for a good place
to do some plinking, so we went west on Armory Road below Barometer Mountain. He was carrying
his Sako FinnBear in 7mm Magnum and I had my Remington 1863 rifle-musket in .58 minie.
On the road about a quarter-mile away was something that looked like a brown VW Bug. Suddenly
the misconception was revealed as nine feet of bear stood up to have a look at us. We were
seriously under-gunned and were relieved when the bear strolled away west while we ran like hell
back east. Had a similar encounter with a Polar Bear at Point Barrow.

Do the residents of Lubbock, TX not know how NASTY their drinking water tastes? Do they really think the white residue which ends up on their dishes is some kind of flavor additive? WTF?

And really....CVS/Walgreens/chain pharmacies should be open until midnight, or open 24/7, not close at 8:30PM. I don't want to haul my sick and puking self through half of Wal-Mart at 3AM.

It is now time for us to ponder one of the ultimate questions in the universe.

Which amalgamation of ground up triticum aestivum, crystalline sucrose, avian ovum, di-hydrogen monoxide, crushed roasted Cocoa embryos, Sodium bicarbonate, NaHCO3 + H+ → Na+ + CO2 + H2O, Sodium chloride, and solidified bovine mammary gland liquid, and other assorted ingredients is better?

The members of The Flat-Earth Society get angry when a visitor mentions
Coriolis-storms and the appearance of sunspots. For them, gravity doesn't exist;
only acceleration. The Earth's disk is being accelerated upward at a steady 32ft
per sec/per sec giving the feeling of weight on the surface. There are no satellites
because it's impossible to "orbit" above the Earth. Therefore, all space-travel is
faked and "satellite" broadcasts come from high-altitude aircraft. The Round-Earth
Theory is a conspiracy shared by every government. Antarctica is a myth, and no-
one has ever seen the South Pole.

No amount of photographic evidence will convince them; it's all faked. Telescopes
showing "planets" and "galaxies" are all defective or the astronomers are party to
the conspiracy.

I had my fun at their site, but it gets wearying. Google them and give it a go.

I have yet to encounter a mob, nor any participant in riots and other civil disorder, who can actually explain why they are doing what they are doing.

Plenty of them will explain why they're angry, shouts such as, "The police are racists!" or "Those fatcats are robbin' us blind!" are common, but neither can adequately explain why the speaker is breaking windows on mom and pop stores and walking out with their merchandise.

Speaking of survival radios, has anyone here experimented with crystal radio sets?

With the right antenna, a good ground-connection, and a good headset you can hear stations
thousands of miles away with a shortwave crystal set. I've built several radios that sold well on
Ebay; I try to make them look like real antiques by using old parts and wire and dressing them up
with polished brass and walnut bases. Germanium diodes are easy, but I've discovered that a
properly-handled galena detector can out-perform a modern diode.

No one told me "Gone with the Wind" was a SHTF movie. I mean, really, all I knew was "As God as my witness, I will never go hungry again!" and "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn!"

So far, Kitty Scarlet O'Hara has been a great example of What Not to Do. There's some lessons we can learn from her:
-diversify the edibles in your SHTF garden
-don't bank solely on forms of wealth which exist only on paper or are promissary notes. Gold is worth more in times of trouble than paper.
-listen to the guy who disagrees with you, especially if he lists off a bunch of reasons you're wrong.
- a good useless rug would be handy to keep around in case you need to remove a body without leaving a blood trail
-diversify your knowledge base
- don't trust women who want to put their hands in your pockets (esp. your wallet pocket)
-Ladies, value and appreciate the good men in your life (serious, Scarlett was a grade A bitch, and that's just in the first reel)
