I think the thing that hit the guy hardest was the deputy sheriff saying, "Oh, those guys again."
I mean for fucks sake.
It's getting to the point that it just isn't worth calling the cops. They can't do anything to prevent, can't do anything to recover, can't even keep them off the street.
Police exist to prevent vigilante justice by ensuring a fair trial.
You can't even get that anymore.

The police exist to protect the rich, provide armed security for tourist attractions, and otherwise protect criminals from their victims.

What's worse, is its now getting to be a real pain in the ass to get real pain meds for those genuinely in need of them - my mom was in the emergency room friday with back pain from pinched nerves, and she was discharged with a scrip for some crappy muscle relaxers, and told to follow up with a pain management specialist... of course, that's kinda hard to do when you get home on a friday night at 8 pm.... ASSHOLES.

It's not our responsibility to protect tweakers and junkies from their poor life choices.
Of course, we'd probably end up paying to treat them in the ER, so, we should repeal EMTALA, too.
The avalanche has already started. It is too late for the pebbles to vote.

I-55 from Ponchy to I-10 isn't called the Southern Terminus for nothing. There's been more than a few bodies hauled out of trunks and pitched over the side in the dark of the night. It served both the Bloody Tangipahoa (from the north) and Misdemeanor Murder (from the south) eras of the region effectively.

Raymond Chandler didn't have Philip Marlowe say, "The Pacific Ocean is too close" just for dramatic effect, except for that you really need your own boat.
The use of the word "but" usually indicates that everything preceding it in a sentence is a lie.
E.g.:
"I believe in Freedom of Speech, but". . .
"I support the Second Amendment, but". . .
