I was reading today that 90% of Denham Springs (the bedroom community to Baton Rouge) has water in their houses.

Talked to my in-laws in Walker, LA yesterday (just north of Denham) and they're okay. It looks like they're above the high-water mark.

No word from my son in Baton Rouge proper, but he lives in an old neighborhood and told me that he's high and dry. It seems that most of the flooding is confined to newer developments along the US 190 and I-12 corridor. Then again, I might be wrong.

IT's getting worse, in the wettest August I can remember. Normally this time of year is a drought, with occasional afternoon thrunder howers. We're still getting rain, though not in the quantities that we got last week, but it's causing problems and backwater areas are strarting to flood. Caskets are floating out of the ground.

The Cajun Navy has cranked up, and over the past week, have rescued an estimated 20K people from flood waters. Their motto is "We don't wait for help, we ARE the help".

I wonder if some of them were cajuns, and just wanted to get in on the rescue action...

Just got my internet back. The flooding down here is pretty bad. In my home town of Denham Springs LA. they are saying that over 80% of the homes were flooded. I am one of the lucky ones that did not flood. I was trapped in my neighborhood for 2 1/2 days without cable or phone service.
My mother, daughter and one of my brothers lost everything. Each had three to five feet of water in their houses. I have another brother that only got three inches of water.
But life will go on and our community will only get stronger as we help each other rebuild.
I have over 20 guns to clean for others that went under water and more people asking me to clean more. I have only had time to clean two so far. I'm doing this free for my friends and family and will not charge those that lost their homes.
These were taken Saturday 8/13/16 at about 9:30 I had to get my niece and her kids to dry ground. Within an hour the water had gone up two feet.
I had left house at 8:45 and got back by 10:30. I tried to leave again at 11:05 but could not get more then a 1/4 mile down the road before the water was to high to drive my truck in.

Sometimes you have to smile no matter how bad it is.

I took this pic on the way back to the house, approx. 1 1/4 mile from my house. Thirty min. later there was over three feet of water on the road,

I was able to make it to work on Tuesday and started doing search and rescue with the Baton Rouge Fire Dept.

These homes had water up to their roofs at the height of the flood.

This poor deer did not make it.

The last two days I have been helping family, trying to get them basic needs. The help coming from people is outstanding and FEMA has been a joke.
We have Officers and Deputies that have lost everything and they are showing up to work to help others. Some have already meet with FEMA and have been denied any assistance.

I moved my mother and one brother into my home yesterday. Then my AC went out.   I have a friend coming today to fix it.
Take care, GOD bless and thanks for all the support.

Glad to hear from you Candyman! I've seen Denham Springs mentioned on the news a few times and hoped that your silence on the net was due to being busy and/or infrastructure issues.

Wished I could help you with the gun cleaning. You need any assistance with cleaning supplies? I'm sure some of us could come up with spare supplies or cash to help out.
