I always emphasized to my troops that I didn't get paid for what I did, but for what I put up with. In some units I was WAY underpaid.
...even before I read MHI, my response to seeing a poster for the stars of the latest Twilight movies was "I see 2 targets and a collaborator".

Had a flight commander on Okinawa who would probably agree with you. One Sunday morning, first day watch, he got the following phone call:

"Lt Z. I won't be in today. There's been a death in the family."
"Gee, I'm sorry Sgt. R., who was it?"
"Me. About three this morning."
"[sigh] Ok, we'll see you tomorrow."
But there ain't many troubles that a man caint fix, with seven hundred dollars and a thirty ought six."

Just read the title, nothing else in this thread...

Yup...

My old chief used to remind me, when I was contemplating fragging some lackwit, that there's a reason they're officers. If they could actually DO stuff, they'd be sergeants.

The chief was a VERY old-school sort of chief.
I am very pro Chief, but the absolute most dicked up DIVOs I've ever seen were Chiefs who got commissions. They are very different jobs.

Prior-enlisted officers were hit and miss, some were jewels, and some were in need of flushing. Same with Aluminum U grads.

But the best officer I ever served under was an Academy grad.

We were in the middle of a serious upscuddle in Korea, and everybody was going assholes-and-elbows to try and stay on top of the situation, without much luck.

One morning, during the pre-mission briefing, our ring-knocker 1/Lt. says "I know we've been struggling to stay on top of things, but we're wearing ourselves pretty thin. I don't want anybody on this hill for more than sixteen hours straight! Got that?"

At which point, our old, fat, SMSgt lead analyst says "Sir, does that go for everybody?"

Lt. says "Damn right it does!"

Fat guy says "Bullshit, Sir, cause I know for a fact that you ain't been off this hill for three fuckin' days!"

At that point, had he asked, we'd have tackled the back door of hell with a small bucket of water!

My boss is a great guy, though he is frequently trying to be in three places at once, so any time he attempts to give an ETA, you have to multiply the given time interval by 2.5.
'Regulate' used to mean the opposite of 'constipate.'

I had one of "those" once. A few years later, I saw an article about him being charged with sexual assault.

I worked for him for 11 years til the plant was bought out by a corporation. The next 3 years brought 3 Supervisory jobs, 3 plant closures and a final job with the owner's daughter running the show by Royal Decree rather than business acumen. At that point I decided that if I was going to work for an asshole it might as well be "me". The last 25 years have been a blur of happy activity and profit. I am happy to walk to work every day (25 yards to the shop out back  )
BingGo! and dittos........... I traded one boss for hundreds. I now call them customers.
One secret to life. Step #1 - Find something you enjoy doing. Step #2 - Find someone foolish enough to pay you to do it.

I've been self employed for over 25 years. I wouldn't have it any other way. With my shitty attitude toward authority, there is no way I could survive in a corporate or union job.

That said, I wish I opened my business in a free state. Soon....

If you work for yourself, is it considered sexual assault if you masturbate in your home office in a Blue state
Will you be required to have a camera or a HR person standing by to make sure you don't assault yourself?
