Splenda is also an excitotoxin.

blackeagle603: Splenda is also an excitotoxin.
Blackeagle, do you have a cite for that? I've never come across it. The worst thing I've heard/seen about Splenda is that there is a chlorine molecule involved that might be potentially harmful if you consume some rediculous amount of the product.

I'm interested because I use it in my coffee and have been diagnosed as diabetic (age 68 and overweight, so it finally caught up with me).

cites on Splenda? You won't find anything from JAMA if that matters to you...

Anecdotally, I and several close friends have eliminated and reintroduced it to see if personal symptoms associated with aspartame followed. They did. Yes, before you say it -- the plural of anecdote is not data...
Russell L. Blaylock, a neurosurgeon based in Ridgeland, Miss., has argued. Blaylock is the author of several books including Excitotoxins: The Taste that Kills, and he warns against the heavy use of Splenda.

Excitotoxins by author Marlina E. Borkwood, MSc
To make matters worse the Air Force Nutrisoda web site states under "Ask the Dietitian": "Finally, a soda that passes the diabetic test with flying colors". As H. J. Roberts, M.D., diabetic specialist points out in Aspartame Disease: An Ignored Epidemic, page 983, a very disconcerting finding with Splenda is the significant increase in glycosylated hemoglobin, which is an important indicator of lessened long term control among diabetic patients. Mr. Turner has stated that the FDA should order the marketers of Splenda to immediately remove the "suitable for people with diabetes" slogan from its packaging and marketing materials. Dr. Roberts also states despite claims to the contrary, as much as 40% of sucralose IS absorbed in humans.

Have you been checked for diabetes lately?

The eye flashes and the numbness would be a big concern for me
Roger that. Checked, and re-checked, but thanks for the heads-up. Always good to have someone looking out for you!

Knew a girl in college who would have a psychotic episode if she drank any Aspartame.

LOL, I was also thinking the aspartame probably wasn't the issue.

 Yeah, yeah... Let me rephrase that: Even more psychotic than normal for her. As in going from cheerfully pinballing around the room to head spinning around, eyes glowing, and small objects suddenly levitating nearby.
