Taking delivery of my firearm from a gunsmith wo a transfer?

The place for beginners, or anyone else, to talk about gun, gear, and shooting topics with a minimum of jargon and/or geekery. The only stupid question is the one you don't ask that blows up in your face later.

Taking delivery of my firearm from a gunsmith wo a transfer?

Postby Durham68 » Wed May 06, 2009 8:55 pm

The Roggio Arsenal stripped lowers I had to ship back because of poor finishes are being shipped to my house and are on schedule to show up tomorrow. I thought taking delivery of a firearm without an FFL was a big no-no. The lady on the phone at Roggio Arsenal said it was ok because they are the same receivers with the same serial numbers that had alreay been transfered to me. Basically like sending it out for gunsmithing.

Well, I've never shipped anything out for smithing and have no idea if what she is saying is true. I don't want to sign for anything if it's going to get me in deep doodoo.

Can I take delivery of my receivers without a second transfer? Is this normally done for recall work?

Yeap is true. Had a Star PD sent back to the dist. for work and they sent it back.

Yup, as long as you send it directly to an FFL, that FFL can mail it right back to you. They can't mail it to another residence, but they can send it to another FFL if they need to.

as long as the serial numbered part (receiver) is not replaced, it may be sent back to you directly... if the serial number changes, it has to go through a FFL...

had this exact thing happen when my SR9 went back to ruger a peening problem.... they were talking about replacing the whole gun, but decided not to because they didnt want to make me pay a transfer fee...

manufacturers do have the ability to destroy the original and make a replacement with the same serial number if they want... but most do not do it because of the hassles it can lead to...

Still haven't gotten to sending my Single Six for the transfer bar upgrade. Straight to Ruger, straight back to me. No worries.

Call Ruger and ask them, they will send you a pre-paid UPS label...
