New shooter report

ME! Well more or less. I've only been shooting a total of 3 times before, each time on private land with the watchful eyes of either my father or father-in-law bearing down on me.
Today was the occasion of several firsts. First time shooting by myself. First time at an actual range. First time shooting with my own gun.
I took myself, my 617 and some other odds and ends to The Bullet Hole in Belleville (NJ). Very convenient for me, 20 minute drive- I used to live only a few miles away, and I've bought tires at a tire shop down the street (Washington Ave) from the range. Looks like a hole in the wall (and it is) but they have a well-ventilated 10 port public range, and they allow rifles. More on that later.
I have today off (but I work tomorrow, don't ask) so I expected to have the place to myself. Nope. There were 3 other people while I was there. The first guy had a bloody battle rifle. 7.62N. I was curious, and while he was setting up I looked over and smiled, but he wasn't feeling social. It was a bit unpleasant in the fairly small enclosed space when he fired, but I got used to it. The next guy wanted some help with a malfunctioning Glock- that's all I overheard. The third guy had a 9mm Glock. He was at the port next to mine, and I swear half his empties landed in my hair. I know it was a 9mm, I had plenty of his brass to look at. Fortunately he got going just as I was finishing up.
I burned through 300 rounds of Federal bulk. Had plenty of ammo left, but I was getting tired. I fired 200 of those DA, and my hand was getting unhappy. My DS-10 and loading tray were great- worked well, definitely worth the money. The RO thought they were cool too, especially the loading tray.
I had one huge shit-eating grin on my face the whole ride home. I even had a smile for the guy who tried to ram me on 46. Now it's time to clean.
