Re: Missouri college now requires students to take a class on patriotism

Thanks for posting this, Mike. I'd seen something about this, but I didn't read the article I saw.

College of the Ozarks is free of charge. The students work off their tuition. People call it Hard Work U. I've always been favorably disposed toward them. More so now.

Re: Does not follow...

I'm getting sick of hearing about Trump. Everywhere, everyone seems to be talking about him. Hating him. Loving him. Criticizing him. Blaming him. Celebrating his tweets. Excoriating his tweets.

Good Lord, isn't there anything else to talk about?

- reel in the FDA's regulated monopolies, I'm not sure how we'd do that. Drugs and medicines are expensive to develop and pharmaceutical companies need a way to pay for the failures of their drugs. That also infringes on the US Constitution's authority of Congress to grant patents. We definitely ne...

Re: Half of all Health Care dollars are wasted?

EMTALA, as always, is the elephant in the room. But, it wasn't faaaiiiirrr that free medical treatment wasn't as good as medical care someone else was willing to pay more for! I think if we could: - repeal EMTALA, - restart County hospitals for the indigent, - reel in the FDA's regulated monopolies...

There's tremendous amounts of admin costs in billing, etc Too tired to read the linked article right now, but I remember when I was uninsured (by personal choice) at one point, and the providers offering 20-30% discounts for cash, pre-Obamacare. I imagine it's only worse now. A relative, again pre-...

Interesting point, NPR. Add to that the looser attitude toward sexuality on all fronts - celebration of alternative lifestyles, pussy hats, etc. - and you probably have society blurring the boundaries of acceptable behavior, too. It's kind of everywhere. When I was in HS, I worked at a pizza restaur...

I've been a consulting civil engineer for my entire career, like MarkD, most of it working for consulting engineering companies. I'd guess that's what Mike is talking about as working for a contractor. I had my own company for about 6 years doing the same thing as the companies I worked for before a...

Spenser often had baked scrod at restaurants in the Spenser books. I was passing through Wilmington, MA (couldn't wait to get out of Boston), so I ordered some scrod, even though they spelled it "schrod". I liked it a lot. I'd get it again. BTW- I'm in Lincoln, NH this week if anyone is ne...

What to do with Puerto Rico?

I don't watch TV, so I miss out(?) on a lot. But I was at a restaurant for lunch where they had a big screen on CNN. It was a continuous stream of "Bash Trump!" Most of it was regarding Puerto Rico, but still, all bash Trump. That got me thinking a bit about Puerto Rico. Haven't there been...
